All About the Apple MacBook Pro

Apple’s MacBook Pro has always had a sterling reputation as a dependable, fully functional and user friendly machine. Five years after its initial launch, it’s still as popular as ever.

The MacBook Pro is available in three different sizes: 13 inches, 15 inches and 17 inches. It features an LED backlit glossy or anti-glare widescreen, with it’s native resolution coming in at 1440×900. It runs on a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330m graphics processor and Intel HD Graphics with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM which is shared with the main memory. It offers dual display and video mirroring, as well as automatic graphics switching.

The 15 and 17 inch models now come with the fastest dual core processors available, the new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. These processors come with Turbo Boost, so if you’re running a program that would run better from a little extra juice, Turbo Boost will increase the speed of it’s cores, boosting it from a 2.66GHz to a 3.33GHz computer.

The new energy efficient generation also features MacBook’s longest lasting battery. With one charge, the 13 inch will run up to 10 hours and the 15 and 17 inch goes for 8-9 hours. What’s even better is the battery lasts up to three times longer than the typical lifespan of notebook batteries.

Not only is the operating system, Snow Leopard, user friendly, the laptop itself is comfortable to use with its full size backlit keyboard and track pad making for a good all around experience.

The MacBook Pro isn’t preloaded with bloat ware like most Windows computers, and it is preloaded with the software suite iLife, which includes a wide variety of useful programs.

iMovie is a video editing software that stores all of your videos in one convenient spot. Most people are familiar with dragging and dropping, and video editing is just as easy as that with iMovie! You just have to drag your favorite movies, audio and pictures, create a few title screens and then you have yourself a masterpiece made by you! iMovie also offers stabilization to video shaky videos, the option to burn your video to DVD and the ability to share it with your friends on Facebook!

iPhoto is a program that organizes all of your pictures. iPhoto has a face recognition feature that automatically detects faces to easily add names to photos and search for photos by person. If you take pictures with your iPhone or any GPS enabled camera, iPhoto will automatically sort your photos by location. If you are a Facebook user, you will love how Facebook friendly iPhoto is. You can change your profile picture, post pictures to your wall and if it recognizes the faces in the photos, it will tag your friends!

The MacBook Pro also comes with Garage Band, which takes the place of a full music studio, iWeb, to create and publish websites as well as iDVD, to burn DVDs.

One of the most beneficial programs that come with your MacBook Pro is called Time Machine. This program automatically saves everything on your computer, including photos, videos, documents, applications, music and settings. If you’re looking for a machine that can handle your life, you’ve found it, and when purchasing a Mac, you’re getting the highest quality product with unbeatable support.

Are there no Viruses for free Macbooks?

An apple computer is a great all around computer. Many people like them because there are very little viruses for them and they have very simple operating systems. The reason there are very few viruses for apple computers is simply because they are not as popular as their competitors. Therefore making a virus for one would only affect a small number of computers, whereas one could make a virus for a more well known company and in turn affect more computers.

When referring to Apple computers I am talking about the whole line of products which consists of Macbooks,Ibooks, and the Imac. However, to say that there are no viruses at all for free Macbooks would be a stretch. There are some, but when compared to another user who has a computer on a different operating system the likelihood of getting one is slim. Reasons for this are that the free macbook operating system, such as Mac OS X, is built using a system called the Unix Kernel, which is one of the oldest most secure operating systems available. Also, as stated above other more well known companies who have millions and millions of users are broader targets for virus writers, so they go for the easy target leaving your free macbook safe and sound.

Another reason your free apple laptop is safe from the invasion of virus writers is because a large number of them are not familiar with an Apple’s operating system. An Apple computer is a great choice for anyone looking for a new computer. Whether you are a student needing a computer for school or a professional needing one for work you can be sure that an Apple laptop will get the job done. Not only can they offer you protection from viruses they also offer a very simple operating system.

While other computers require multiple steps to do the simplest of operations a macbook offers a very user friendly vibe letting you do what you need to do with one or two clicks. In addition to a very user friendly interface a free apple laptop will save you money on virus protection software, which can get pretty expensive and will require you to update regularly. When people say there are no viruses for macbooks they are not completely right. However, the chances of getting one are very, very slim compared to another computer from a more well known company.

The chances of you ever coming across a virus on your free macbook are about the same as finding a needle in a hay stack – the needle being your macbook and the hay being the number of other computers by more well known companies. It just goes to show you that going with the underdog is sometimes the best option.

Everything You Should Know About MacBook Accessories

Apple’s MacBook product line is one of the most successful laptop lines ever created. Because of their wide popularity, there are literally thousands of accessories designed to help you get the most out of your laptop. Some come directly from Apple, and other third party companies make up the difference for more specialty product lines.

One of the most popular MacBook accessories that used to be included with each purchase was an Apple remote. This little remotes allow you to control iTunes and any video playing service from anywhere in your bedroom. This accessory is inexpensive and allows you to use your computer in party scenarios or from your bed.

Another great and necessary Apple accessory is the DisplayPort adaptors. Each free MacBook comes with a DisplayPort. To connect your MacBook to an external monitor or a television you need a DisplayPort adaptor. If you are hoping to connect it to a television, you should purchase a DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor. This allows you to connect it in high definition to your television. You can even pass audio across this cable! That means you can watch movies on the big screen that you’ve downloaded from iTunes or the Internet. A DisplayPort to DVI adaptor is perfect for an external monitor if you are hoping to dual-boot or run things on a nicer monitor. Apple also has nice mouse accessories if you don’t like using the trackpad while you aren’t at home.

Perhaps the most important accessory for a MacBook commuter is a case or sleeve of some kind. There are a few different types of cases that people use. Some opt for a hard shell type case that never comes off of the device. The pros of this sort of case are that it really protects things nicely at all times. However, it does detract from the simplicity and beauty of Apple’s laptop products. A sleeve is the alternative. It will protect it in travel but allow you to remove it when you need to use it. Perhaps this is a bit more of a hassle, but it keeps the laptop protected and looking great.

There are hundreds of other accessories available that will all extend your MacBook’s usefulness in different situations. If you need your laptop to be more portable friendly, you can get portable mice that allow you to work wherever you are. If are more graphically inclined you can purchase a tablet to allow you to use photo editing programs easier. No matter what kind of computer user you are, accessories for your MacBook can make the experience that much better.

Why people love their macbook!

The latest incarnation of Mac computers are impressive. People that have purchased a new Macbook have experienced some amazing innovative things. The technology that Apple has placed into their latest laptops is worth the money that Apple asks for their top-notch computer. In order to fully understand why people love the latest Mac computers, one must look at a variety of key features.

First and foremost Macbooks come equipped with ease of use that other companies simply cannot offer. Apple not only makes the computer itself, they also make a majority of the software and they make the operating system that is standard. By having all major components under one umbrella, you can ensure that quality control is one of the major points that Apple works on.

The computer is not simply another laptop in a flooded market; it is a technologically advanced work of art. Take a look at the specifications that come standard with every laptop. The process of building the Macbook begins with a solid piece of aluminum. Apple literally carves out each single body design computer from solid metal, and adds no additional screws, holes, or anything that modern laptops have. By offering a single body design, the sleek and stylish Apple design stays in tact, and each computer looks and feels technologically superior to competitors. Apple is so confident that users will find the design stunning, that they have videos of how the laptops are constructed out of solid metal from step one to the last step of ordering and packing a laptop to send to customers.

After you’ve seen what goes into making the body of the computer, consider looking under the hood. The first thing to look at is the powerful graphics engine that comes standard with each and every Macbook. The video card utilized by Apple is impressive. The NVIDIA GeForce 320M processor, which has been known to boost performance by immensely, comes standard. Not only does it give gamers a leg up on the competition with smooth rendering, fast processing, no clipping, it gives powerful speed to simple tasks that computer users sometimes take for granted. The video card is not just for hardcore gamers; it helps process web browsing, photo editing, and makes movie watching a breeze. Upon booting up for the first time, a user will notice the smoothness of the processing. Simply put, everything simply looks better on a Mac, and it’s evident with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M processing prowess.

The Macbook doesn’t just feature fast rendering, and beautiful graphics; it delivers one of the premiere computer processors available today. You won’t need to upgrade this one, that’s for sure. The standard processing component for laptops is the Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocking in at 2.4GHz. For those looking for everyday processing power, the Intel Core 2 Duo is perfect. It can run multiple programs while surfing the Internet, listening to music, or watching videos. The processing speeds for the entry level Macbook performs as a premium level laptop out of the box. Alongside the fast processor the Macbook comes equipped with 2GB of RAM standard, but can be upgraded up to 4GB for those that want to maximize their laptop.

The hard drive is adequate and has enough room for videos, music, and photographs. The standard size is 250GB, which is higher than others, and for those that want more storage, a 500GB option is also available. With 500GB of space, you can ensure that you’ll be storing all your work, files, and more without worry of running out of room.

Battery life is vastly important to computer users and the standard batteries in the industry only last two to four hours. But Apple is not letting things just stay the same; they’ve managed to pack a powerful 10 hour battery with a single charge. That’s right, you read correctly, you get 10 hours of power to make sure that you’re able to work through long hours. Part of the technology that lets users get so much life out of their batteries is that the graphics card is tied into the battery’s performance allowing for more efficient running battery life without sacrificing performance.

The features don’t end there; the Macbook comes equipped with one of the best disc drives in the industry. They have a built in DVD/CD burners that allow you to back up video and audio media of all types. You also get great software that lets you create dvd menus and add a professional touch to your projects.

The ports on the laptop deserve attention as well. You not only get a lot of great standard ports, you’ll be able to connect all your media devices without running out of components. You will be able to seamlessly integrate your iPhone, iPod and even iPad with relative ease. Some of the extra ports include VGA, DVI, Display Port, HDMI, Ethernet port, headphone jack, audio-in port, and even a lock slot if you want to lockdown your computer. Macbooks come with more standard ports than major competitors and that’s another key reason people are loving their Macbook.

If all those reasons weren’t enough, the Macbook comes with a built in web cam. On top of the display there is a small camera with microphone that integrates with standard iChat software that allows you to talk to friends and family around the world with clarity of sound and visual. This is not your “run of the mill” camera, it’ is a top-notch camera and microphone that cannot easily be matched. It’s amazing to see and hear the clarity, which is near professional levels. You also do not need to upgrade your system to utilize it; it works from day 1 at the click of a mouse.

The Apple Macbook is one of the most well reviewed laptops in the industry. Users don’t worry about viruses, constant upgrades, updates, or complications that arise with competitor’s machines. While the price points start at $999, people that have invested in the powerful Macbook, Macbook Pro and Macbook Air, all agree, it’s the best computer they’ve ever owned.

Apple now has a bigger Market Cap than Microsoft and is the largest NASDAQ company

If you love basketball or football of days old, you understand the thrill of rivalries. Most fans of anything are open minded enough to accept that the best team should win, if the game is played fairly. In come the technology age and it’s heavy hitters and major rivals: Microsoft and Apple. It’s always exciting to watch the back and forth of those who live by Microsoft products as opposed to those who love all that’s Apple. I mean people get just as adamant as the fans rooting for their favorite sports team. Sometimes even more so because these two companies affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people for the better or worse.

So what is the current situation in this lively stand off? Well, recently Apple has officially taken the reigns as the largest tech company in the world, leaving Microsoft trailing in the wind. This has given members of the Apple world, often considered the under dog, the thumbs up they need to argue even more rigorously: Pro APPLE! The technology giant responsible for popular items such as the iPhone has pulled ahead of its long time rival after the official release of the iPad. Microsoft and Apple’s rivalry to provide technology forward products have resulted in the creation of wonderful products such as the iPod, Zune, Win Phone 7 and the popular iPhone.

Apple founder Steve Jobs claims bragging rights over Microsoft founder Bill Gates after three decades of trailing the competition. The close of the New York Market revealed Apple’s value at an estimate $222 billion dollars compared to $219 billion dollars. So maybe not such a major TKO or knock out, but definitely cause for celebration, when you been the underdog for so many years.

Apple has received the advantage by tapping into the tablet technology market, which Microsoft has yet to touch. Microsoft enthusiasts are ever hopeful. They cling to the hope of seeing the rise of the titan once more in the technology field. Many consumers and gadget lovers are waiting in anticipation to become a part of the next big thing that Microsoft will release to combat this major win by Apple. Many outside of the tech world allege that the rivalry is much more serious and dangerous than many people know. Everyone remembers that Microsoft was sued by the government and many allege that their founders desire for a monopoly in the world of technology has led to some very unethical practices. However for those who are simply tech heads they love the battles and anxiously await the next best thing. No matter what side your own or how you research the subject, the rivalry between Apple and Microsoft has provided technological wonders beyond our wildest dreams and expectations.

Microsoft has dominated the technology market over three decades. The bundling of hardware, software and the standardized use of Microsoft Office made Bill Gates the triumphant leader in the battle for consumer attention. Albeit, by some accounts, unethically. Steve Job’s previous attempts to take control of the market failed to conquer the titan Microsoft until the eclipse of the iPhone. Many iPhone users will tell you that for them the battle was won once and for all at this point in technology history. However, the creation of the advanced smart phone with a touch screen, application access and sleek appearance also gave Apple the standing ground and hard hitting punch to being the battle for NASDAQ market values. Microsoft reciprocated with the creation of the Zune, permitting users to transfer information through infrared technology, touch screen capability and limited application access. This was a moderate success and Apple was still reigning in the minds of many.

A major buzz was created over the new touch screen tablet by Apple caused uproar with consumers. When I say uproar, I truly mean it. The media was totally consumed with first time owners of anything apple and would pay good money if you could write or blog about it. Technology and computer enthusiasts lined the streets to own the new break in technology. Upon the release Apple’s of this work, sales jumped by more than 36.5 billion and created a waiting list for consumers whom exceeded store demands. When was the last time this happened with the release of anything in the world of technology? Apple truly has something special with the iPad. Since the launch of this item there has been careful debate of the next step for Microsoft. The former technology leader has fallen more than 13.94 percent in the NASDAQ standings while Apple has risen 32.88 percent. Shareholders rejoice at the change and potential investors have renewed their faith in the rise of the under dog. Where there are investors innovation will continue to follow and we expect to see even more from Apple because of this surge.

Apple’s value has taken a fruitful turn for the best in the recent months and shows no signs of slowing. Microsoft engineers are left baffled but rejuvenated for the competition. As consumers we truly love the rivalry. We are enjoying the new gadgets and advancements that have trickled into the market and solved our need for organization, speed, etc. Waiting for the next technological break through may be as challenging as waiting for tomorrow. Bill Gates and Microsoft engineers have always risen to the competition and provided some of the best products on the market. Microsoft sits in the background and waits with patience as Apple enjoys their moment of glory on NASDAQ.

Macbooks are Viruses (Virili) – The Truth About Mac Security

The truth has finally emerged. Apple has been harassing Microsoft via advertising campaigns bragging that OS X was immune to computer viruses for years. Apple has finally admitted that Snow Leopard can be humbled by Viruses (Virili). Yes, that’s right. Your Mac book is contaminated. Panic time can now officially begin. Gone are the days of cruising the Net without any risk. This is why and some detail on the story.

For years Mac lovers have been telling the world how the mighty word of Steve Jobs protects their Macs from dreaded viruses. Some would panic once in a while. Most simply looked to Steve Jobs for the claim of immunity. Certainly it is evidence of Apple loyalty that PC Virili writers are far too afraid of the wrath of Jobs to consider writing a virus for Mac OS X. Is that really the truth now? Perhaps someone changed his or her mind.

That’s because it is officially released via Apple.com that Mac books are immune no longer. Now all Apple computers have to be updated to remain safe from harm. So it looks like Apple has changed the tune that they are singing. They now admit that Mac books require help to protect them from Viruses (Virili). Yes, you read that accurately. Mac computers are now at risk just like the handy, dandy P.C. users. The world can feel the rumble of change. The Mac world is safe no more. Change is evident.

Things have really changed for the Apple user. Still, there is a crutch from Jobs’ team. It seems that Apple has now provided Snow Leopard users with anti-virus software for free. This of course must be to protect against Viruses (Virili) or even ‘worms’ since they still have ad campaigns against PC users. This has historically been their primary position of fame. They have advertisements that claim that Mac users are superior to P.C. users because they don’t have to worry about any viruses. The advertisement says that Mac users don’t worry about viruses. They won’t be able to stand by that any longer. It is time to change the song Jobs.

The Apple update is a free update for American users. Mac users in the United States can utilize the Safari browser to download the update. It protects the Mac from the Viruses (Virili). In a screen shot it is shown detecting a version of the RSS Plug Trojan horse that evidently cannot harm the Mac. Still, Apple is claiming that it is an update that is recommended to protect their beloved Apple computers. All of the Apple users will now have to be just as careful as everyone else. Well, except for the Linux users but that’s another story.

Everyone else in the world has to pay a fee to get the update. Which will obviously irritate the foreign Mac lovers. I guess Jobs figures that they already pay a higher rate for the hardware. So he must suppose that they will also succumb to the additional charges for the updates. Somebody really should inform Steve Jobs of better ideas for international relations. Perhaps Microsoft has not taught Apple anything regarding that subject. Someone could send a note possibly on how to “make friends and influence people”.

Now the truth is out there. It will now cost all the Non-American Mac users to get protection from Viruses (Virili). Mac books are Viruses (Virili) just waiting for those dreaded attacks. The world gasps in horror. The Mac user is Elite no more. Oh well, at least they still have the iPod. Which of course requires serious hassles to access your own music. The truth has come to light. It is a sad day Apple fans. Now you have to go through all of the same things P.C. users do. It will cost you more as well. At least you have an update. If you have the latest Safari browser and can get the update installed with the virus issues on your Apple then you can get your computer fixed. I can feel the smirk of the P.C. people right now. What a humbling time it is for the Apple community. All the “Apple Geniuses” must be at a loss. What will they say now? What is their claim to fame now? At least they still cost more money than any other computer. The Alienware computers do cost more than Apple computers. So that won’t work at all. It appears that Apple will have to really take a hard look at their marketing strategies. They are no longer disease-free. They cost a premium price as well. They are not good at playing computer games on. You can’t install Linux without voiding the warranty. Can Jobs tell us what they are good for?

Apple will definitely have to come with brand new advertising campaigns now. Perhaps something that softens the blow of the reality of their computers’ risk factors. Maybe Linux will take the lead now. Only time will tell. Change is a good thing normally. Apple users may not like the new change. Historically they have not had to worry. It really is a wonder at just how far Apple computers have come. Mac computer users have claimed to be disease free for so many years. Only time will tell us if our beloved Mac books are Viruses (Virili). At least there is a fix, for now anyway.

iWork Suite vs Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac

Anybody who is a user of Apple’s Macintosh computers likely will run into this decision: should they but Apple’s iWork Office Suite or Microsoft Office for Mac? Both pieces of software are for the same purpose, and published by the two largest technology companies in the world, but there are some subtle differences that can impact the decision greatly in one way or the other. This article will compare and contrast the two office suites to help a prospective buyer with his or her decision.

Both of the two applications include software for what the average computer user needs to do most on their PC, and these programs are what will be compared first. In Microsoft Office 2008, there is Office Word, for word processing documents, PowerPoint, for creating presentations, and Excel, for managing spreadsheets. The corresponding applications in iWork 2009, Apple’s latest iteration of the program, are Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.

In one manner, it is difficult to compare iWork and Microsoft Office. This is mostly because Office is essentially the industry standard for word processing, and many businesses and schools require the word macro-enabled formats, or are standardized to the software. It is difficult to get away from Office, and some people who prefer to use iWork report that they need Office anyway just to stay compatible. While Apple programs can save in Microsoft’s formats, the compatibility for more specialized features, such as macros, may not be perfect. However, here the programs will be compared based on functionality and features, ignoring Microsoft’s dominance.

Both pieces of software include all of the basic word processing tools. This includes features such as page layout, editing fonts and sizes, bold, underline, etc. Both also include far more templates than anyone could ever need. Apple’s Pages includes easier navigation for adding pictures and other media from Apple-created tools, whereas Microsoft Office offers easier navigation for adding media in other situations. Which interface is better (Word’s ribbon or Apples toolbars) is a matter of personal preference. There is no tool to view pages files outside of the Apple ecosystem (on a Windows or Linux computer), but one can easily translate the document to a pdf or a Microsoft Word format.

The next two pieces of software in the suites are Microsoft’s PowerPoint and Apple’s Keynote. In this case, both programs offer extremely similar features. The only major difference is that Keynote is extremely tightly integrated into the Apple ecosystem, as one can control a presentation using an iPod, can export presentations to Apple’s iDVD software, and has compatible software for the recently released iPad. Microsoft’s software is perhaps slightly more basic in terms of included themes, transitions, and video editing, but is far more extensible as it is widely used, so such features can be added if necessary. Keynote is likely the better of the two pieces of software for making extremely impressive presentations quickly, but PowerPoint is perfectly adequate and useful for those who want to ignore more professional features. As before, the interface (ribbon vs toolbar) is a matter of personal preference.

The final pieces of software is the spreadsheet software in each suite. Microsoft offers the ubiquitous excel, while Apple offers Numbers. The difference between these two pieces of software is more stark than anything in the previous software. Excel is clearly aimed at the professional. There almost is no competitor for the software in business, and Excel’s functions are arcane and very difficult to learn, with more than anybody could ever possibly use. Numbers, by contrast, is easy. It offers far fewer features than excel, but everything is simple. For example, instead of having to understand lists of complex formulas to draw up a spreadsheet, the interface is a simple drag-and-drop for formulas. Excel is for the professional who is doing real-word deep analysis, while Numbers is for the layperson who is keeping track of something with a spreadsheet or only needs to do smaller analyses.

Both suites offer internet functionality as well. Very recently Microsoft began offering a free version of Microsoft Office online which is extremely easy to use to edit documents made on the desktop. Apple has the website iWork.com, which includes the ability to upload documents, control who can see them, and download those documents. Both of these services are free to use and include collaboration features, competing directly with Google’s Google Docs service.

One thing that Microsoft Office offers for which iWork has no counterpart is a large amount of other software. In the Professional versions of Microsoft Office, Microsoft now includes Entourage, an email/scheduling/calendar program, Publisher, a program for designing professional documents, such as brochures and banners, SharePoint, collaboration software, and many more programs.

Most of these programs are aimed directly at businesses, which make this the likely choice for any business that needs such features. Small businesses, which do little collaboration definitely do not need these features. It should be noted that many of these other programs have different names in their Windows iterations. In many cases, Apple has answers to this software in the form of software that comes bundled with a Mac.

It also should be noted that one benefit of using Apple’s software is the one-size-fits-all mindset. Microsoft Office for Mac has four different versions, possibly with more when the next version comes out. The software included is different for every version. iWork has only one version, so one definitely knows what he or she is getting.

In conclusion, it is the opinion of the author that a student or business professional should get Microsoft Office, while anybody else can get along perfectly well with the cheaper iWork Office suite. For the best balance in many cases, one should get both.
