Surrounding the Macbook is a subculture of modders who just can’t keep their hands off the hardware, and why would they? Apple’s Macbook is one of the most modable interfaces in the industry. Here is a compiled list of the some of the best Macbook modding ideas:
.) Colorful Keys – Perhaps the easiest way to customize your Macbook is to replace the keys! Keyboard designing has become an obsession for some, mixing and matching colors to create unique and wacky keyboard displays. For a small price, you can order a set of monochrome of multicolored keys for your keyboard online. Mix and match different sets to create a rainbow keyboard, or use black and white to make a fancy checkered pattern.
.) Startup Logo – You can customize the boot logo on your free apple laptop using bootxchanger. Upload any .BMP, .PNG, or .JPG, and change the logo from the regular, boring Apple to a picture of your friends, family, or pets. For added functionality on your free macbook, download the “bootxchanger PLUS version” to create eye-catching animated boot logos.
.) Emulation – Download a free macbook emulator to run Linux Redhat, Windows XP, or any other operating system on your machine, so you can maximize comparability between systems, and run the games you’ve always wanted to run! Software for this can be found easily on the Internet, and is relatively inexpensive or free. Open source projects will ask for a donation, but spending money is generally not required.
.) StickeeGUI Interface Graphics – StickeeGUI has a collection of some of the coolest stickers in the industry. From flames and skulls to kittens and flowers, StickeeGUI has a massive collection of vector graphic stickers for people of all interests. Don’t like the logos that StickeeGUI has to offer? Upload your own .PNG file to order a custom decal for your free macbook, and skin your laptop to look truly unique amongst the crowd.
.) Custom Clicks – Choosing a custom mouse cursor isn’t difficult at all. Navigate to your free macbook control panel and look in the cursors subcategory. Apple macbook computers already come with a wide array of cursors, but to use your own custom one, you’re going to have to download one off the internet or make your own .ICO file in Photoshop or another popular image editor. To get started in Photoshop, check the dimensions of the default cursor for your operating system. Create a new file of that size. Using the pixel pencil tool to draw small lines, zoom in until each individual pixel is clearly visible on your screen. Design a custom cursor and save it as a .ICO file. When you are finished making your custom cursor, simply navigate back to the control panel and browse for your new .ICO file, replacing the current default icon.
